Introducing the job profile of the Green Leader – Greenlead
The GreenLead project aims to support SMEs’ green transformation by developing the professional profile of the Green Leader. This role will help SMEs implement sustainable practices, leverage initiatives, and access funding for a successful green transition.

Objectives
Objectives of the project
The objectives of the project are the following:
- Enhance the capacity of VET trainers and organizations to assist SMEs in adopting the Green Leader profile and Green Division.
- Improve and innovate the VET education system, with a focus on green transition-related subjects.
- Enable SMEs’ key staff to follow upskilling pathways, acquiring the necessary skills to lead sustainable green transitions within their organizations.
- Encourage a proactive approach by emphasizing the role of managers and key staff in implementing and promoting green practices within SMEs.
- Address the diverse needs and challenges faced by SMEs across Europe.
- Highlight the benefits of the green transition for SMEs, including increased productivity, innovation, market resilience, and competitiveness.
- Provide a cross-functional framework for the Green Manager professional profile at the European level.
- Promote collaboration between social-service providers and the educational system to support SMEs’ green transition.
- Strengthen the capacity of the EU and its Member States to develop effective policies and interventions that foster the EU economy’s green transition through VET programs.
Results
Expected Main Results
- VET trainers and organizations will strengthen their training resources and tools to support the modernization and green transition of European SMEs, particularly by establishing the Green Leader profile.
- SME owners and managers will gain the opportunity to follow an innovative upskilling pathway, acquiring the necessary skills and competencies to lead their organizations through a sustainable green transition as Green Leaders.
Activities
Main Activities:
- Conduct the development of a comprehensive “State of the Art” report on the green transition of European SMEs.
- Create the GreenLead & GreenWorksComp, including the Green Leader professional profile, division tasks, and training curriculum.
- Design and develop an innovative training course and associated training materials.
- Establish a certification model to evaluate and certify Green Leader skills.
- Develop the GreenLead e-learning platform for accessible online learning.
- Organize and implement piloting activities to test and refine the training approach.
- Create the GreenLead Toolkit to support the implementation of green transition strategies.
