SYQF
SYQF is a European VET initiative designed to address a critical gap in the rapidly expanding superyacht sector: the absence of a unified, industry-specific qualification framework and clear career progression pathways. The project responds to the need for structured, high-quality, and future-oriented training. SYQF focuses on the following goals:
develop the Superyacht Qualification Framework (SYQF) with clear career progression pathways for new entrants and experienced professionals
support lifelong learning through accessible, industry-specific training formats, including online and blended learning
create a dedicated educational module on biofuels and energy efficiency to promote sustainable practices in the superyacht industry
integrate a training module on gender balance, non-discrimination, and inclusion, helping remove barriers to entry and progression
establish a strong evaluation and stakeholder consultation process to refine and validate the framework
develop a specialised training course for educators and course developers to strengthen training quality and delivery
The project addresses a sector where employment is growing, while the broader European maritime industry has seen a decline in seafarer numbers. Unlike traditional maritime professions, the superyacht industry still lacks standardised training pathways, resulting in fragmented learning, self-education, and limited professional progression. SYQF aims to change this by creating a comprehensive and practical framework that reflects the real needs of crew members, technical specialists, service providers, and employers.
SO1: Develop the Superyacht Qualification Framework (SYQF) with clear career pathways and certification routes for new and experienced professionals
SO2: Support lifelong learning through accessible, industry-specific training, including online and blended learning
SO3: Integrate sustainability and inclusion into training through dedicated modules on biofuels/energy efficiency and gender balance/non-discrimination
SO4: Build the capacity of educators and training providers to deliver high-quality SYQF-based learning across the sector
SO5: Ensure the adoption and long-term impact of the SYQF through stakeholder consultation, open-access resources, NEET outreach, and accreditation within the Malta Qualification Framework (MQF)
