Transcare
Discrimination on the grounds of gender identity and gender expression is widespread in EU Member States. Transgender people tend to suffer from a poor state of health due to stigmatisation that affects their psychological and physical well-being. This is further accentuated by the avoidance of health services in anticipation of discriminatory attitudes by healthcare providers.
As a response, Transcare aims to improve transgender people’s access to healthcare by increasing the capacity of medical staff to safeguard their healthcare rights through targeted training courses. It also aspires to address policy gaps and create policy recommendations.
Objectives of the project
- To increase the capacity of clinic staff and providers in order to improve the access to health care for transgender individuals
- To provide a flexible and targeted training for clinic staff and providers on safeguarding the transgender individuals’ health rights
- To encourage the trained clinic staff and providers to tackle discrimination based on sexual orientation
- To provide healthcare providers and decision-makers in Greece with recommendations for creating a welcoming environment for transgender people
- To increase awareness regarding the discrimination against transgender individuals in healthcare and their rights
- To transform the Greek healthcare environment into an inclusive and tolerant one
